Obituary of George Stephen Janis

George S. Janis, 92, of Green, Ohio, has joined the heavenly choir of angels.

He was unwavering in devotion to his God, his country, and his family. He served as a Seaman First Class in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Corregidor during World War II. After earning his degree in accounting from The University of Akron, he worked at Goodyear for his entire career and retired in 1986. He sang bass in the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church choir for 50 years and served as an usher for several decades.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Janis; three children: Stephanie Saniga (Ray Saniga, deceased), Mark Janis (Julie Delagrange Janis), and Julie Clayton (Robert Clayton); and seven grandchildren: Caitlin Saniga Hawksley (Joel Hawksley), Christopher Saniga, Samantha Janis, Benjamin Janis (olivia Stanton-Ameisen), Holly Saniga, Andrew Janis, and Ryan Clayton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Stefan Janis; and his siblings: Sr. Mary Bonaventure, Sr. Mary Stephen, Helen Janis, Mildred Mihaly and Joseph Janis (Julia Janis).

The family will receive friends Friday, June 7, 2019 from 5 to 8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home of Green, 4178 Massillon Road, Uniontown OH (corner of Massillon and Steese Roads in Green, entrance off of Steese Rd.). A funeral mass honoring George's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Green, 1800 Steese Rd., Uniontown OH 44685. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. His wife, Patricia, asks that donations honoring George be made to one's charity of choice.
